4036 SWEET SCARLET
4036 Sweet Scarlet – Jill Pierre and Justin Jones
4036 Sweet Scarlet was purchased at the 2018 Reno Snaffle Bit Futurity by trainers, Justin Jones and Jill Pierre, both returning trainers from the 2018 Wild Spayed Filly Futurity.
Justin and Jill competed in the 2018 Wild Spayed Filly Futurity with Keli’s Gotta Gun and South Steen’s Sweet Raven. They loved the experience so much that they decided to do it again. This time, they teamed up and came home with Sweet Scarlet for the 2019 program!
Justin Jones– Trainer Bio
Justin Jones of Jones Performance Horses grew up on a Hereford ranch in Redding, California. There Justin and his brother and father rode and trained their own ranch horses. Justin didn’t get to experience what riding a performance horse was like until he was out of high school. He explained that he vividly remembers what that felt like and how it was different than any other horse he had ever ridden before. After that experience, Justin knew that he wanted to learn more. He wanted to be able to ride and train horses at that level.
Justin’s first mentors included 2004 NRCHA Hall of Fame inductee Stan Fonsen and Dave McGregor, a NCHA and PCCHA Hall of Famer. Justin says the time spent with these trainers, “…taught me a lot about the horse’s mind”. He says that they helped him develop his horsemanship skills even further. Just before going out on his own, Justin worked half time with 2004 NRCHA Hall of Fame inductee, Smoky Pritchett. Smoky helped him with his first reined cow horse futurity colt. After learning from Smoky and others, Justin began training on his own full-time.
PARTNERSHIP INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE ARENA
Justin has been showing Cutters and Reined Cow horses since 2005. He and his partner, Jill Pierre, now own their training facility near Red Bluff, California. Both Justin and Jill purchased fillies from our Wild Spayed Filly Futurity Sale at the 2017 Reno Snaffle Bit Futurity and competed during the 2018 Wild Spayed Filly Futurity. Justin said that he and Jill have always believed in Protect the Harvest and what we stand for. According to Justin, they wanted to support our cause in a “big way”.
Jill Pierre – Trainer Bio
Jill Pierre of Jones Performance Horses began riding in the early 1990’s. She rode English originally, then switched to Western riding when she began working as an Assistant Trainer at Bar Eleven Ranch. Jill showed in her first Reined Cowhorse show in 2007. She has also competed in reining and was the 2016 Limited Open Derby Reserve Champion at Brasada Ranch in Oregon.
Jill explained that she and Justin feel strongly about the work that Protect The Harvest is doing and want to do their best to support PTH programs by helping to educate the public about wild mustang adoption.
