Matt Sheridan is a fifth-generation horseman. He attributes his love for horsemanship to his father. When he was growing up his dad felt it was important to be exposed to all different disciplines from stock horses to hunter/jumpers. As he began his professional career with horses, he focused on natural horsemanship spending time with Ray Hunt and Buck Brannaman. He describes his approach as practical horsemanship: techniques that can be put into practice on a daily basis.
Matt’s diverse training experience includes Versatility Ranch Horse and Reined Cow Horse. The 2019 Reno Snaffle Bit Futurity was his first experience showing a futurity horse in the open division. He has also worked with non-pros preparing them for NRCHA shows. In addition to being a professional horseman, Matt works full-time for a local high school district coordinating vocational programs for special education students.
When Matt decided he would like to participate in the Wild Spayed Filly Futurity he asked a client to bid for him. She surprised him by purchasing a horse that was not in the sale preview. Matt is pleased to have purchased Warm Springs Tiger Lilly, who was added to the program the day before the sale. He reports that she is progressing well with his program.
In 2008, Matt competed in a Mustang Heritage Foundation competition in Sacramento placing 3rd out of 30 on his mustang mare, Luna. Additionally, he was the 2010 Western Regional Versatility Champion for the National Foundation Quarter Horse Association (NFQHA) and the 2007 Reserve Versatility Champion for NFQHA.
