Kyle Hockett – Trainer Bio

Kyle wanted to participate in the Wild Spayed Filly Futurity after coaching his friend Taylor Gordon in 2018. Kyle was impressed with the caliber of horses and trainers and wanted to see what he could do with a nicely selected filly and a whole year of training.

Kyle grew up on horseback in a family of cowboys. He learned horseshoeing skills from his father and starting shoeing horses at 16. He competes in a variety of Equine events and disciplines, the common thread in all his events is a foundation of Natural Horsemanship.

Growing up around horses, Kyle learned quickly that top performance is the result of good physical care and conditioning. As a farrier and trainer, Kyle’s focus is on encouraging each horse’s individual natural talent. His training philosophy is that each horse has individual needs and abilities so training needs to be individual as well. He is well known for his ability to rehabilitate horses with physical and behavioral problems.

Kyle trains by reading and responding to his horse, applying pressure and offering reward in the form of a release, and building confidence and trust with the horse.

Kyle Hockett is the owner and operator of Hockett Horsemanship at Dee Bar Farms in beautiful Powell Butte, Oregon.  Kyle’s wife Sarah assists Kyle with the program management of Hockett Horsemanship. Sarah has a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling Psychology and is a board certified counselor. She enjoys helping Kyle and his client set goals for their horses.

Look for Kyle and Annie to compete in the 2019 Wild Spayed Filly Futurity in Reno, Nevada next year.
