Friend of the Land – January 2024

We would like to congratulate Jane Marshall for being named our Protect The Harvest Friend of the Land for January 2024.

To say Jane is just a dairy farmer would be a huge understatement. Her family commitment, community involvement, and servant heart started with her upbringing on her family’s farm in Eaton, Ohio.

After graduating from high school, she attended The Ohio State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. She then went on to continue her family’s mission of feeding the world with her husband Thomas.

Jane and Thomas have five children, all of whom she homeschooled, and seven grandchildren. Three of her children have also continued as stewards of the land in farming. Their other two children went on to become a veterinarian, and the other became a Ph.D. microbiologist.

Jane was also a Preble County Commissioner (2005-2008), Ohio Agri-Women President (2011-2014) and Secretary (2008-2010), and she held numerous board positions with American Agri-Women and American Agri-Women Foundation.

Over the past three decades, Jane has also been involved in numerous community and agricultural organizations such as Preble Co. Children’s Services, Bible Study Fellowship Leader, Federation of Republican Women Board of Directors, Preble Co. Roundtable Member, Preble Co. Local Emergency Planning Commission, Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Preble Co. Juvenile Court, Eaton Business & Professional Women, United Way of Greater Dayton Preble Co. Branch, Preble Co. Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors, Preble Co. Republican Women’s Club, Preble Co. Continuum of Care, Preble Co. Farm Bureau, Preble Co. Republican Central and Executive Committees, Preble Co. Mental Health and Recovery Board, Preble Co. Planning Commission, Preble Co. Comprehensive Land Use Committee, Preble Co. Agricultural Society Board, and the Preble Cares Committee.

Her goal throughout her life has been to serve her local community by using the skills God gave her. Those in her community know her for being a community leader, hardworking, and able to communicate with everyone. We applaud Jane for her dedication to her local community, family, faith, and agricultural lifestyle.
