Friend of the Land — March 2024

We are delighted to congratulate Robert Schickel for being named our Protect The Harvest Friend of the Land for March 2024.

Robert Schickel embodies the spirit of agricultural stewardship and community leadership. As the owner and founder of Hay Day Inc., based in Southern Indiana, his journey began humbly as a hay and straw broker and has since flourished into a comprehensive provider of new and used farm equipment, along with consignment auction services.

Since its inception in 1986 by Robert and his wife Teresa, Hay Day Inc. has not only grown into a successful agricultural enterprise but has also fostered a tight-knit family environment. Together, they have raised three children and are proud grandparents to eight grandchildren. Their commitment to farming extends beyond business, as Robert and his son Matthew actively cultivate hay, straw, popcorn, and soybeans.

Yet, Robert’s impact stretches far beyond the boundaries of his fields. His dedication to community service is exemplary. For over two decades, he has served as a member of the Lanesville High School Board, currently holding the position of President. Additionally, Robert’s 21-year tenure as a Regional Fieldman with the Indiana Farm Bureau and 12-year directorship demonstrate his enduring commitment to advancing agricultural interests at the regional level.

Robert’s devotion to his faith and community is evident through his longstanding involvement in various organizations. He has played a pivotal role in establishing the Franklin Township Men’s Lenten Prayer Breakfast, now in its 28th year, and has been an active member of the Lanesville Lions Club, the FFA Advisory Committee, the Harrison County Hospital Foundation, where he currently serves as Vice President, and his local church.

Through his unwavering dedication to his local community, family, faith, and agricultural lifestyle, Robert Schickel exemplifies what it truly means to be a Friend of the Land. We extend our deepest gratitude to Robert for his remarkable contributions, which serve as an inspiration to us all.
