PTH Advisor Craig Curry Passes at Age 70

Craig Curry, 70, a Protect The Harvest advisor since 2013, succumbed to a lengthy battle with health issues on Feb. 3. A Greenwood, Ind., resident, Curry provided Protect The Harvest with the management of regulatory, legislative and litigation issues on national, regional, state and local animal welfare, property rights, food security, environmental and non-government organization (NGO) matters.

“Craig was a valued member of the Protect The Harvest team who provided sage advice on critically important issues,” stated Protect The Harvest co-founder Forrest Lucas. “He was a bulldog or statesman when necessary, and navigated complex and sensitive issues we confronted on behalf of animal and land owners, farmers and ranchers, hunters and anglers, those of us who like to eat and those of us who believe in the liberties identified by America’s founders. Craig was a dear friend and helped us fight for what is right. He will be missed, and we have big shoes to fill.”

Two recent, issues Curry worked on for Protect The Harvest involved an animal rights extremist group attempting to sway New York State’s Court of Appeals to grant human rights to an elephant and a California state ballot initiative on nationwide hog and chicken housing that was ultimately heard by the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS). Protect The Harvest’s court brief opposing the granting of human rights to an elephant was extensively cited when the state appeals court agreed an elephant is not a human. While the California ballot initiative funded by animal rights extremists was upheld by SCOTUS in spring 2023, other pathways to negate this state government overreach are being explored.

“Craig was always focused on what is best for both animals and their owners,” said Charlotte Lucas, co-founder of Protect The Harvest. “He was a terrific advocate in that regard, and we appreciate all he’s done to help us over the years. He will always be in the hearts of the Protect The Harvest family.”
