Over the years extremist groups have continually thrown up roadblocks to proper management of the populations of horses on American rangelands. They are at it again, like with the 2016 proposed spay study, extremist groups have filed a lawsuit to stop the BLM’s Warm Springs Spay Study and 10 Year Management Plan. Via our Wild Spayed Filly Futurity, we have demonstrated that the standing surgical spay is a viable, humane and economical option for population control. The BLM should be able to use it as a population control option.
For too long these groups have been able to stop BLM management efforts via protests and lawsuits because their actions have virtually gone unchallenged. This time things are going to be different. Dave Duquette and Protect The Harvest are intervening in the suit on behalf of the BLM .
The populations are at a crisis level, the rangelands have been decimated impacting the rangelands, the horses and native wildlife. It is now an animal welfare issue. Something must be done.
