Chris Pratt Under Fire Again

Long time followers of Protect The Harvest may remember when actor Chris Pratt (most recently known for his roles in The Avengers and Jurassic Park films) was raked through the coals by animal extremists because he is an avid hunter. Protect The Harvest supported Chris Pratt then for his views on hunting, the myriad of emotions he goes through every year as he tries to fill up his combination bull and buck tag. Mr. Pratt understands that hunters are conservationists- their purchase of the tags help keep fund conservation efforts, hunting helps control the population, keeping it healthy and strong. You can read more about how hunting, fishing and trapping help to fund efforts here.

And why we must unite to keep from losing that heritage and tradition here.

Pratt is yet again in the hot seat with the Twitter crowd because he didn’t attend an “Avengers” fundraiser for Presidential/Vice Presidential candidates Biden and Harris on October 20, 2020. Screenwriter Amy Berg, parodying a candy bar commercial, posted a picture of the four Hollywood “Chris’” (Pratt, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Pine) saying “One has to go”. Overwhelmingly, her followers chose Chris Pratt, citing their belief of his alleged political stance and that he’s involved in a conservative church.

Twitter’s algorithm is such that when something is retweeted multiple times, it is “trending” and with that comes more followers, more retweeting and more falsehoods being spread.

Afterwards, many of Mr. Pratt’s costars and his wife had to take to social media to defend him because the backlash was so nasty.

Robert Downey Jr., who also didn’t attend, posted on Instagram “The ‘sinless’ are casting stones at my #brother, Chris Pratt … A real #Christian who lives by #principle, has never demonstrated anything but #positivity and #gratitude … AND he just married into a family that makes space for civil discourse and (just plain fact) INSISTS on service as the highest value.”

Pratt’s wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, posted a response to the poll, “Is this really what we need? There’s so much going on in the world and people struggling in so many ways. Being mean is so yesterday. There’s enough room to love all these guys. Love is what we all need not meanness and bullying. Let’s try that.”

Actor and co-star, Mark Ruffalo, who is very political on social media posted, “You all, @prattprattpratt is as solid a man there is. I know him personally, and instead of casting aspersions, look at how he lives his life. He is just not overtly political as a rule.”

The Facts
Newsweek magazine stated on October 17, 2020 that, “Pratt has never openly discussed his political views on social media and CNN reports that he donated money to President Obama’s campaign back in 2012.”

The Hollywood Reporter stated that the “Voters Assemble” fundraiser to benefit Joe Biden gathered the cast of the Avengers as they “unite for democracy.” Pratt’s name is missing from the line-up, as were several other Marvel stars.

.According to the U.S. Sun (a subsidiary of the UK’s Sun magazine), Mr. Pratt told Men’s Fitness magazine in 2017: “I don’t feel represented by either side. I really feel there’s common ground out there that’s missed because we focus on the things that separate us.”

The most telling reason of why Mr. Pratt was not at the fundraiser is simple. According to Joe Russo, who co-hosted the fundraiser with his brother Anthony, says Pratt “was not asked to participate because he was halfway across the world in the wrong time zone.” The actor was currently filming “Jurassic World: Dominion” in the U.K.

Protect The Harvest continues to support actor Chris Pratt for being a man of his convictions, a family man, and hunter.
